This abstract expression of early Springtime trees with their spring-green leafing out takes you into the depths of the magical qualities of the forest.

Taking a closer look at the beautiful light enhancing the the textures, colors and shapes of this cement wall inspired the abstract from real image.

The jagged lines of the railing invite a walk on a seaside boardwalk and is the inspiration for this abstraction of this path leading to the beach on Ocracoke Island, in the Outer Banks of North Carolina.

The textures, shapes, lines and muted whitewash coloring of this conservatory invite the viewer to linger in order to take in the details of the beautifully interesting structure. This is but a small corner of an immense building that held my interest.

As part of my experience on an April day I spent a good part of a sunny hour with some giant bulldozers. This is the bottom half. The scale was really imposing.
The wonderful textures of the giant tires of the bulldozer fill this composite design with a sense of scale of these awesome tools of the trade.

Wheat and wind are an enlivening vision. The ripe, amber colored wheat ripples like waves in the sea and both absorbs and reflects the warmth of the sun. Stands of green grass offer a lovely contrast to the warm tones of the stands of grain.

So many moons have gone by. Here's to many more to come. This is a painterly abstract creation derived from an image of a crescent moon gracing an October evening sky.

The delicately bulged tips of the slender bare branchlets fill the viewer with anticipation of the fullness that is to come thanks to the rains and more abundant light that April brings. The encouraging warmth of the afternoon sun can be seen on some of buds even on a brisk Spring day.

A fallen branch, firmly attached lichen, a jumble of of tossed leaves could be seen but not noticed or cause one to stop and take in the textures of the bark and lichen, the warm autumn leaf colors, the swirling shapes of the tossed and shrinking leaves, the paler undersides of the leaves revealing more details of the leaf veins and structure, the warm light giving life to this small scene... moment's glance giving so much.

On a late Spring day, the quiet beauty and wonderful subtle mood of luminous grass, stroked by the breeze and felt in the heart remains softly in my memory.

These Linden tree leaves catch light and interact with each other so beautifully. Their curvy undulating shapes are always a delight to see especially when a breeze touches them lending just enough movement to make it interesting. This monochrome image highlights their luminous quality.

On the Ferry at the Outer Banks of North Carolina one experiences the vastness of the ocean broken only by a slim sandbar. This strip of land is so appealing as it holds on to its place. Above is the other immeasurable sight of a cloud-filled sky. Hard light of the midday sun creates a path of intense sparking. All together it pulls and creates a wistful element and lasting impressions for me.

Natural Design in Wood - Aged wood knot on a beautifully weathered barn wall siding show that the knots in the wood continue to reveal the life energy of the wood. Even after its stay in this weathered barn wall, this knot continued to exude resin, showing signs of life energy in the residual color from the sap and possibly attracting other life in the form of lichens. This is part of the magic and mystery that is our planet.

A snow covered hill, cold blue, blurred horizon gives a sense of wild wintriness and disappearing as we move to the horizon and drift upward with the dreaminess of the clouds. All that holds us is the tree line and the memory of what lies beneath.

I was drawn to this Birch tree being blown by the wind on a grey and rainy day. I find that such days present their own quality of beauty.

An impressionistic rendering of an early and gray spring day -
It was a late Spring year and not too many sunny days. Many of the ruggedly bare trees were still leaning towards the sparseness of Winter creating a wash of gray and white and black while a quiet haze of green began to cover other trees.

This image is a composite of the beginnings of tree activities in March. Young buds begin to fill out the bare shapes of branches, skies are changeable and anticipation is in the air.

The months of April and May have abundant inspiration for creative observation of the emerging scenes in nature. This abstract design was derived from the leaf and flower budding of branches of the Hickory tree.

The glistening breeze-blown ripples on the lake's surface are a refreshing invitation for these men who are readying to enjoy an afternoon of rowboating.

These Linden tree leaves have captivated me for a long time. They catch light and interact with each other so beautifully. Their edges and veins in particular are luminous highlighting their curvy undulating shapes when light touches them. They are always a delight to see especially when a breeze touches them lending just enough movement to make it interesting.
The image is rendered with simplification and color desaturation to keep the focus on the light and shapes.

The emerging leaves of a Sandcherry bush in April are welcome signs of the oncoming spring season.
I've come to appreciate the Sandcherry shrubs that are planted in public places. Their red-purple leaves are refreshing when green is all around and their very lovely small pink flowers are a delicate treat that wane all too soon like many Spring flowering shrubs and trees.

Abstract Reality Series -
I was mesmerized watching the rain sliding down my window during a in a downpour, I had a real life screen on which the rain traveled. All of the objects outside became blurred patches of color. As cars passed, all kinds of interesting and changing scenarios were created.

I was passing by this birch tree in a dreary parking lot one blustery pre-spring day and was taken by the leaves which had hung on from the previous autumn (marcescense) through the frozen winter giving us a reminder of the past and a nod to the passage that was soon to come. The vigorous wind-blown movement of the leaves gave a breath of life to the otherwise grey surroundings. The dance of these birch trees became a sweet memory.

Silhouetted tall grass being blown by gusts of wind lend a special effect to the view of the lovely sliver of a waxing crescent moon as it appears in a soft blue sky in the late afternoon of a warm September day.

This little tree captivated me during a blustery rainstorm and provided me with a good number of images that continue to hold my attention. This second go around of exploring these takes expresses more of the stormy greyness of the day with less color saturation.
